Last year, I had about 6 tomatoes that were chewed open and sucked dry of juice. It was squirrels – they’re like little garden terrorists. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s because they’re thirsty. They don’t eat the tomato because they don’t like them; they just want the liquid. This year, I’ve put deep saucers of water near the tomatoes that I dump and refill every day, and so far I’ve not had a single fruit robbed (yet), despite record heat and drought conditions.
