Early Girl Tomato Arrival

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Finally was able to harvest a couple of “real” tomatoes–i.e., not cherry tomatoes. These are Bush Early Girl. Not that big, but bigger than a cherry. Have not tasted one yet, first one is just now to full ripeness. Anyway, exciting to finally get a non-cherry tomato!

Planted Green Beans

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Decided that the two pepper plants I put down in the “real garden” were going nowhere, and the Earthbox peppers were going to satisfy our pepper needs, as well as far outpace the ones planted in the ground, so tore those up and replaced them with more green bean seeds today (6/4/10). I only planted four green bean plants back in the beginning of Spring, which is not enough to generate many beans I have discovered. I also spaced them too far apart (2′) so added more in between the ones already there. Kinda late to plant, but beans get going pretty quickly, so hopefully we’ll have more beans soon.

Orange Bell Pepper Ready

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

The bell pepper in the Earthbox finally turned orange. Only the side towards the sun turned orange. The whole thing became orange a few days after picking though.

Cherry Tomatoes and Earthbox Peppers

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Harvest update. Getting a few more cherries coming along. Both the Sungold and the White Currant are leading the pack (note, the links are to the sources of the seeds I grew these plants from). The Sungold’s are great, good size cherry tomatoes. Nice orange color. The White Currants are more yellow, are also tasty, but are quite a bit smaller.

The Orange Bell is finally ripening. Should be pickable in a few days.

Some of the jalapenos are forming with chocolate brown streaks along the length of the pepper. Looks pretty cool. Harvested several jalapenos and serranos.
